Register for Classes and Attend Orientation
First, you'll need to register for your classes. If you have questions about registering, we can help.
Once you register, you'll receive an email invitation with details about orientation. Orientation is required, so mark your calendar now! You're on your way to a great career. -
Pass A Criminal Background & Drug Screening Check
The state of Texas requires all EMS students to provide a criminal background check and drug screen—no older than one year—before they can start classes. Visit our third-party vendor, VerifiedCredentials.com to order. The package code is HJHYC-44929 and the cost is $80. Submit your results to the EMS department before the semester begins.

Get Immunizations
As with any San Jac medical program, the emergency medical services program requires that all students keep their immunizations current through the duration of their coursework.

Take a Physical Exam
Being a healthcare worker is as physically demanding as it is mentally demanding. That’s why we require all applicants to pass a program-approved physical before starting classes. Partner with a physician to assess your physicality using our evaluation form.

Purchase Your Textbooks
Our EMS program uses a few foundational textbooks to guide coursework. All EMS students are required to purchase the textbook packages listed in our updated information packet. Note: you'll receive the information packet during the orientation.
EMS Orientation Dates
To receive an email invitation with meeting details, you'll need to be a registered student in our Spring 2027 EMS courses. The orientation is mandatory, so be sure you're enrolled! For registration questions, please visit courses and registration.
EMT-Basic Spring 2027 orientation dates:
- Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2026, from 9-10:30 a.m.
- Friday, Dec. 11, 2026, from 9-10:30 a.m.
- Monday, Jan. 4, 2027, from 4:30-6 p.m.

CAAHEP Accredited Paramedic Programs and CoAEMSP Letter of Review (LoR) programs track
and report outcome measures annually to the Committee on Accreditation for the Emergency
